Synopsis:

Macross 2 is based over the very popular Macross movie but set in an alternate timeline than any of the other Macross movies. The basic plot of this film is it is 80 years after the original Macross movie took place. U.N. Spacy has faced many peaceful times as of late until a rouge Zentradi group come out of Hyper Space and attack the space forces. Unlike the original Zentradi group these are not affected by the Lynn Minmei attack. Our hero in this film is Hibiki a young journalist who prefers to do yellow journalism instead of the real news. Eventually though Hibiki is given the opportunity to tape a live space battle. From here his aspect on life is severely changed as he witnesses the death of his friend, and brings back a female Zentradi from one of the new enemies ships.

Eventually the two become friends but the Rouge Zentradi also know as the Marduke come to earth in an attempt to get back their comrade even if it means taking her beyond her own will. The earth is once again faced with the possibility of all out extinction can Hibiki uproot the conspiracy about the war and can the new generation of U.N. Spacy recruits be strong enough to protect their home planet from this threat to you'll have to see this really awful movie to find out!

Review:

Macross 2 is the bastard child of Macross, considered the worst movie out of the series and those comments surely hold up. First off it's a parallel universe from the original time line meaning it has nothing really to do with any previous movies or series! So as I look at it this movie has no real point to it besides wasting 2 � hours of your time.

The plot is very simplistic, compared to other series and the characters are very hollow. Hibiki really cannot compare to other more formidable characters like Hikaru (Macross) and Isamu (Macross Plus). There is a ton of action in the film but after awhile it draws out very long and the action is very repetitive and gets stale. The only good thing about Macross 2 is the music but for to sit for a 2 � hour movie it has to have a decent plot and good action. Macross 2 gives you a repetitive plot with action that is just as repetitive as this sentence. The animation style is done nicely but that can't make up for much. So if you're in the mood to waste $30 dollars on this movie and waste 2 � hours of your life on it go buy Macross 2 the movie.
