Macross Plus: Special Edition

Synopsis:

Macross Plus is set in the year 2045; it is about two test pilots that were originally former friends named Isamu and Guld. But a long time ago something happened between them and their other friend Myung. Now after so many years they meet up again Isamu and Guld are battling it out over who will win not only the test flight but also Myung's affection. As time goes by we learn that Myung has left her dreams of singing to become the manager of Sharon Apple a virturoid singer. Well the competition really heats up to see which person's veritech project will become a reality. It looks as Guld's mind controlled jet is going to win. This is when things turn ugly and the two get into many fights during their test runs. Eventually Guld ends up putting Isamu in the hospital, after a mishap.

Myung also is having certain problems in her life too. First off someone or something is trying to kill her. Second she actually controls Sharon Apple because the CPU chip the company is going to install has yet to come out. Third she is torn between her Love for Isamu and Guld. After these problems are somewhat solved Guld and Isamu's projects get scrapped. Apparently U.N. Spacy has decided to go with a new unmanned jet fighter instead called the Ghost X-9 and it will debut during the anniversary held on Earth to commemorate the end of the War. Well Isamu being the hothead he is steals his test plane and goes off to destroy the Ghost, Guld goes after him in hot pursuit to stop him. To top things off the creator of Sharon has installed an unbalanced chip in Sharon Apples CPU and the program has gone crazy putting the civilians under a trance and capturing Myung. Will Guld and Isamu solve their differences in enough time to save Myung or will Sharon Apple just get more out of hand, you'll definitely have to watch this movie to find out!

Review:

This movie is perfect; the story is definitely a lot better than Macross 2. The characters all come off very believable. Isamu is your perfect no fear attitude pilot that is in some cases a little to care free. Guld acts like your typical Zentradi being very serious but able to snap at any times notice. The animation for this film is very top notch compared to other Macross movies. The sound track is perfect and suits every scene it was very well composed. The plot is very ingenious and there are a ton of revelations and plot twist that keep the viewer on the edge of their seat.

The action is perfect and does not get repetitive. At times there are a couple of jokes hidden in that will have you laughing, overall this is a great film with a great script and an even better ending! I highly recommend Macross Plus the directors cut however recently they broke it up into two parts on DVD and four for the VHS calling it an OVA there is a movie edition but some scenes are added and cut out. Go with the OVA version with subtitles, the dub version is horrible and the Japanese track sounds a lot better and is more accurate to the script. Overall this is a must buy you won't be disappointed.
